Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi has quashed rumours that he is set to come out as gay.

Twitter user @TheChelseaDaily reported on the social media platform that the 24-year-old was set to become the first openly gay footballer in the Premier League after telling his team-mates that he is homosexual.

However, Batshuayi rubbished the claim, writing on Twitter on Thursday: 'Bro even your mother knows that's false', alongside 'laughing' emojis.

In recent years, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Robbie Rogers both came out as gay after leaving English football.

However, a number of campaigns to promote gender equality and support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender players in football are currently ongoing.

There are nearly 200,000 people backing charity Stonewall's Rainbow Laces movement, with both the FA and Scottish FA behind it.

Furthermore, every English Football League ground will display rainbow-coloured corner flags between November 25 and December 3 in support of Stonewall's campaign.

Meanwhile, Batshuayi is currently gearing up for Chelsea's Premier League clash with West Brom at the Hawthorns.

Antonio Conte's men sit fourth in the top flight, nine points off leaders Manchester City, after defeating Manchester United 1-0 before the international break.
